Xboxes weekly meeting. 31.01.2024
Attending: Paz Alonso Arias (PAA), Nuria Catalan Las Heras (NClH), Matteo Volpi (MV), Carmelo Barbagallo (CB), Alexei Grudiev (AG), Anisullah Baig (AB), Ping Wang (PW), Igor Syratchev (IS)
Xboxes status summary by PAA. Conditioning of Structure B, reaching power of 39MW, with pulse width of 50ns.
When showing condition history of Structure B, WW noticed that there is some kind of cross-talking of BDs between Structure A and B (structure B not being conditioned for some period during summer). PAA will check flag recording and processing of data to fix this.
About the BOC. PW showed results of calculations to evaluate where to test BOC. AG comments input power should be 100MW (highest input from klystron, the better).
Discussion about whether to use structures as absorber, or remove structures and use loads directly.
WW comments we should first replace the component we suspect to be generating weird BD pulse without BDC last summer. We should fix this first, then we can start integration of BOC and Bowl.
NCLH ask what kind of interfaces they have. PW confirms Bowl and BOC have different interfaces (BOC has standard WR90). PW and AG confirm the Bowl (application as Correction cavity, its tuned) is ready too. NCHL notices the tapers have not been tested at high power. PAA to ask Sergio about them to perform RF measurement.
AG asks what the operating temperature for both Bowl and BOC is. PW confirms its 35 deg for BOC, and 20 deg for Bowl (this could be a problem, PAA confirms this is the minimum of the chillers).
Discussion about the integration of BOC, with or without correction cavities. AG: nominal shape of compressed pulse is not important. WW: all applications of BOC involve correction cavities. IS: better to leave CC and do phase manipulation.
We reached consensus: we will test in in XBOX2, not XBOX3, and after the correction cavity.
Other comments. WW asks if the pulse compressor in Xbox3 has been demonstrated (it was repair at some point). NCLH confirms it was never tested. Same comments for the piston in Xbox2, although at the moment this is working.
Melbox. Starting conditioning line (few meters).
