Neutrinos from supernovae: multimessenger connections

by Cecilia Lunardini

Australia/Sydney
Description

The detection of neutrinos from core collapse supernovae is one of the main goals for the future of neutrino observatories. A detailed, high statistics detection will deliver a large amount of information on the physics of core collapse, on the properties of neutrinos, and more. An even richer picture can be obtained when considering the interplay of neutrinos and other messengers, namely gravitational waves and photons. I will discuss specific cases where such multimessenger approach can be particularly fruitful, with emphasis on the connection between neutrinos and gravitational waves at hundreds of Hertz as well as at sub-Hertz frequency. I will also show that supernova neutrinos can be the source of observable gamma rays at 0.511 MeV energy.
