Description

Ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions allow to re-create conditions akin to the early Universe, where the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP), a hot and dense QCD medium, was prevalent. Due to the extremely short lived QGP that is created in such collisions, only through indirect probing methods are we able to ascertain its intrinsic characteristics. Jets, spray of collimated particles originated by the fragmentation of a hard parton, are multi-scale objects that can probe the QGP across its different wavelengths. As jets evolve concurrently with the QGP, they experience its time evolution through the multiple interactions with the surrounding medium. Such interactions, allow to constrain the time-dependence of the QGP characteristics, while offering a new exploration avenue to understand the time structure of QCD radiation. In this seminar, I will discuss how an extended QCD medium with the characteristics of a QGP can bring unique insight into the phenomenology of QCD jets.
