Summary of Meeting

Present: F. Fassi, M. Chabab, A. Hoummada, Uli, Kenneth, Lawrence, Sanae, Kétévi, Christine, Benard, Funmi, and Mounia.

  1. Summary of the site visit and follow-up:

    1. Detailed budgetary information needs to be communicated to the Moroccan authorities for them to decide on their levels of support. The specifics may vary depending on the relevant authorities.

      • The LOC submitted all the necessary documentation to the relevant bodies last week, but they haven't received any feedback yet. However, based on our discussion with the minister, the expenses for the 20 Moroccan students will be covered. For the remaining selected students, their coverage will depend on the availability of financial support.

      • Regarding the timescale, when we should expect their feedback is not provided. But between the end of the month and the mid of April, we should have a clear path.

      • The LOC is expecting to have two meetings with the Academy and council, and the ASP should be the first item to be discussed. They will also have a meeting with the University of Hassan II Casablanca to discuss how they will support the Moroccan students.

      • Mohammed First University - Oujda has agreed to provide support.

      • The LOC has requested the list of the selected Moroccan students. The IOC responded to this request. We expect that Morocco will cover the 20 Moroccan students mentioned in blue in the selection Google Doc under sub-committee 8, and ASP will cover the ones in green (6 Moroccan students), in addition. All others will be for online participation.

      • Chabab mentioned that all Moroccan universities need to be represented in the selection.

      • We introduced another color code into the student selection Excel sheet for the non-African students, based on Hoummada’s comment. These students can participate in person if they have at least flight coverage

    2. Site visit by Horst Severini on April 22-26 to review the computing logistics:

      • Horst will visit Marrakech the week of April 22 to review the logistics for computing and software.

      • Host’s travel will be covered through the US-ATLAS international outreach budget.

    3. Preparation towards Learners program, April 15-19, in progress and discussed

      • We have already started our weekly meetings to prepare for the high school program in April.

      • There will be four activities running in parallel: Particle Physics, Accelerator Physics, Astrophysics, and Detectors & Electronics, in dedicated weekly meetings. All interested individuals may join these dedicated meetings.

  2. Finalization of student pre-selection:

    • All the subcommittees have finalized their reviews, and they have already provided their final list of the pre-selected students. Based on the funds available, we will set up a threshold. By Thursday, we should send the revised list to the ICTP.

  3. High School Students Program::

    • More details will be provided by the LOC; they have already contacted the National Education. From their knowledge, the selection has not started yet.

There are minutes attached to this event. Show them.
