Poor air quality is a concern in African cities, but governments have been too slow to react, one of the reasons being the scarcity of data on different pollutants. Instruments based on low-cost sensors and Internet of Things (IoT) are being considered as solution to evaluate the concentration of different pollutants but very few research has been done till now in Africa on this topic.  On the 7th and 8th November 2023, an online seminar was organized in the framework of the IoT4AQ project that brought together Microelectronics and Air Pollution specialists and served as an introduction to an in-person workshop that was hosted by the Alioune Diop University (Senegal), on 14-15 March 2024. On the 7th of June 2024, a second online seminar was hosted on zoom as an intro to the second workshop. This seminar aimed at bringing together users of low-cost air sensors. Participants to the first workshop were invited to discuss their progress. Topics of this workshop include design, testing and deployment of IoT-based air quality monitors. At the end of the training, participants will be able to design their own air quality monitors.

Researchers and students who wish to take part to this hands-on training are invited to register and apply (a motivation letter and a curriculum vitae of less than 4 pages in a single PDF file) by January 31, 2024.

The participation to this workshop is totally free of charge, but the number of seats is limited.

Scholarships are available to cover the registation fees, the accommodation and the subsistence expenses but participants will need to fund their travel to the venue.

The workshop will be held in English.

The programme of the workshop will be announced soon.
