Zdc Minutes 05 April 2024
=========================
Present: Cole Le Mahieu, Juan Marquez, Michael Murray, Duane Ingram,
Semra Turkcapa, Ufuk Güney Tok,
(James Bowen and Laza Dragoslav contacted Michael after the meeting)

News: Michael
=============
Michael's first grandchild Ai-leen Zhang joined the group yesterday! She may look at Run 6 data.
Testing of old tubes ramping up, see report by Ufuk and Semra.
Mark Stockham found old drawing (dog) files for the ZDC and Laza converted them to PDF.
Hannah Bossi has been helping Mate with CRAB so that he can look at large sample of 2023 data. From this we will try to look at how to reject bad events and improve the trigger.
The broken screws on ZDC+ are a serious concern.
Ufuk commented that in a first look at ZDC- they didn't see broken screws.
PMT Tests: Ufuk
===============
Ufuk reported on tests of the EM+ section. Currently they can just do dark current tests. The scope pictures are shown in the slides. EM5 has a larger dark signal than the others. The Digital information from the scope seems to show a series regular spikes that are very very short in time (<1ns).
>>> Todo: Check digital data and investigate spikes. The data is here https://github.com/CmsHI/ZDC-RPD
For the hadronic tubes they need to make a bigger dark box.
After dark current tests are done German and Alexi will help them set up for LED data.
RPD Analysis: Sam
==================
For 2018 Sam showed very nice plots of V1 even and V2 odd versus rapidity. The resolution of the spectator reaction plan is only 9% but there is clearly an effect. About 10 times mores data is coming.
For 2023 Lydia Neidlinger has been looking at the <x> for the RPD. For peripheral collisions it starts at -1.2cm and moves steadily toward -0.2 cm as one goes to very central events.
>>> This cannot be due to a movement of the crossing angle for different centralities. Rather it seems to suggest that neutron distribution is wider for more central collisions but because of the offset the OBSERVED mean X moves with centrality.
>>> Todo: Lydia: Please prepare histograms of the X distribution for different centralities so we can look at the change of the width.
News from after the meeting:
=============================
Laza had a very good meeting on the ZDC mechanics with Ianos Schmidt and Paul Dobbins.
Hannah Bossi has agreed to be the ZDC software coordinator.
Next meeting
============
We will shift forward one hour since Michael has to attend a funeral.
>>> Note: 12th of April 2024, 3.30pm CERN, 9.30am Central
