Welcome to the Indico page for the 2024 annual collaboration meeting of the Chicagoland Computational Traineeship for High Energy Particle Physics (C2-THE-P2).

We have several goals for the meeting:

  • Planning courses and semianrs for the upcoming year
  • Discussing potential future projects
  • Hearing research status reports for all cohorts
  • Getting to see each other in person

IMPORTANT UPDATES:

  • Due to the current covid spike in the Chicago area and Fermilab, our meeting will be conducted in Hybrid Mode.   Please feel free to attend in person at Fermilab!   However, if you feel sick, or if you are uncomfortable being in public spaces during this covid spike, please consider staying at home and attending remotely via Zoom.  If you do decide to attend in person at Fermilab, please consider masking.

  • As a result of the current covid conditions, we are postponing our Collaboration Dinner, which was originally scheduled for Thursday evening at Two Brothers Tap House in Warrenville.   We will decide later if we will hold it (and if so when and where).

For those of you planning to attend in person:  All meetings will take place in the Sunrise Conference Room, located in the northeast corner of the 11th Floor of Wilson Hall

If you are participating as a Business Visitor, then you will need to pick up your Business Visitor badge and be escorted to the 11th Floor.

  1. You may use either the Pine St. Entrance or the Batavia Rd. Entrance to Fermilab.
  2. Please proceed to the Fermilab Welcome and Access Center (FWAC, a.k.a. the Housing Office), located at Aspen East (an historic, white, victorian, farm house).  The FWAC opens at 8:00 a.m.
  3. Once you have received your Business Visitor Badge from FWAC, please proceed to Wilson Hall and park in any of the adjacent parking lots (all parking lots are OK to use).
  4. Enter Wilson Hall though either the Main Entrance or the (side) Badged Entrance and proceed to the Main Atrium.  The Main Atrium is quite an architectural marvel.
  5. While gazing within this grand space, please congregate near the elevators at the northeast corner of the building.  Note that there are two sets of elevators on opposite sides of the building:  choose the elevators on the right side of the building, when facing north, towards the main entrance and the reflection pool outside.
  6. Please contact us to let us know that you are downstairs via either
    • a phone call or txt message (+1-352-871-4578)
    • an email to Richard.J.Cavanaugh@gmail.com
    • or the C2-THE-P2 Slack Channel,
  7. Patiently wait for Rick, who will apologetically to bring you to the 11th floor
  8. Enjoy the view, which is actually quite nice and worth the hassle, and a cup of coffee :-)

For those of you planning to attend remotely:  please use the following ZOOM connection .  If you plan to attend by Zoom, please let us know.

For both those planning to attend either in person or remotely, please send a PDF version of your presentation slides to Richard.J.Cavanaugh@gmail.com and jahreda@gmail.com

Site Access and Badging

-- Start No Later than 31 June --

Site access to Fermilab has been and remains both challenging and confusing.   This is compounded by inconsistent communication and enforcement of policies, as stated on Fermilab websites.  In a recent example, even high ranking DOE officials from the Office of Science with an DOE HSPD-12 badge had to be escorted while onsite (contrary to policies stated on Fermilab websites).

Therefore, if you do not have a current Fermilab issued access badge, we urge you to start the process of gaining onsite access to Fermilab as soon as possible.   To start the badging process please visit the following link to Fermilab Global Services:  Global Services.  There you will find 5 steps for completing the access process.

  1. Fill out an access request form, which can be found at the above link.

If you do not have a Fermilab computer account follow Option 1

If you already have a Fermilab computer account follow Option 2

Select "CMS at Fermilab" as the Fermilab Affiliation and Richard Cavanaugh as your Point of Contact. The purpose of your visit is an Event and you can use "Two day annual C2-THE-P2 annual meeting, hosted by the LPC" as the description. The location/building is "WH 11E" (Wilson Hall 11E).

Please note that you must classify yourself as a Worker Type:
    1. a Business Visitor -- if you have no affiliation with a Fermilab experiment.  This designation requires an escort.   If you come under this designation, then you may ignore the rest of the instructions below and simply follow this link:  Business Visitors
    2. a User -- if you are a member of an experiment that uses the Fermilab Accelerator Complex
    3. or an Affiliate -- if you are a member of a Fermilab experiment that does not use the Accelerator Complex (such as the CMS Experiment)

  2. Complete onboarding (you can skip this step)
Please note that this is for legacy requests.  Because you are submitting this request in 2024, you do not need to perform this step.

  3. Make your appointment for a Fermilab-ID badge (you can skip this step)
Please note that if you are a Business Visitor, then no appointment is necessary for badging

  4. Complete (any) training prior to your badge appointment (you can skip this step)
Please note that no training is required if you are a Business or Event Visitor.

  5. Obtain your Fermilab-ID badge
If you are a Business Visitor, then when you arrive onsite, proceed to the Fermilab Welcome and Access Center (formerly known as the Fermilab Housing Office), located at Aspen East to get your BV badge. The Fermilab Welcome and Access Center is open from 7:30am-4:00pm.

Please contact Richard.J.Cavanaugh@gmail.com with any questions or comments regarding site access.
