A few salient points as follow.

  • We received updates on the final report from Light Sources, Astrophysics & Cosmology, Materials Physics.
  • The Young Physicists Forum intend to extend their report with a list of actionable recommendations.
  • The usage of maps of Africa with country borders and its political implications was extensively discussed. We suggest using maps of Africa without country borders, or tables if the messages can be communicated effectively in that format.
  • UNESCO is interested in the ASFAP report and would like to help in these ways
    • Providing secretarial support in editing and formatting
    • Providing some travel coverage to the ASFAP symposium
    • Disseminating the report to other interested entities
  • UNESCO asks for the draft report, with an executive summary, by the end of June 2024, to be used to secure the above listed support.
  • We propose to organize the ASFAP symposium in connection with the 4th African Conference of Fundamental and Applied Physics, ACP2025, planned at the University of Lome, Togo, on September 29 – October 4, 2025. We suggest attaching the ASFAP symposium to ACP2025 on October 5-9, 2025, at the same location.
  • In addition to the support from UNESCO, we have also applied to IUPAP, and we will be pursuing other sources for funding.
  • We will meet again on July 3, 2024, at 14:00 CET.
