HI-ECN3 - Structural Safety #3

Europe/Zurich

As a result of the structural safety meetings please see the following update:

To try to obtain more information from the calculations reports of the steel tie rods a ticket was opened with Francois Villagrassa. The information he was able to provide was already known.

Ziad has completed a structural analysis of the cross section of the ECN3 cavern, receiving some preliminary results.

The steel tie rods are loaded at around 1330kN and have a tensile capacity, which can represent about 1/3 of their resistance. The steel tie rods located towards the rear walls and closer to TCC8 are likely to be less loaded, maybe even unloaded.

In terms of fire safety, it is confirmed their vulnerability to fire action. As mentioned in our previous meetings, a judgement would only be able to be made after the FIRIA study has taken place and the relevant fire severity scenarios have been run.

The steel grade still needs to be investigated through a non-destructive method of testing.
