Draft minutes
Present: Chiara, Gunn, Teresa, Kacper, Jean-Frederic
Notes:
- Jean-Frederic suggested that we have magnet survey (preparation work) with the new magnets on the surface, keep him in loop when Dominique Bodart has finilised magnet design
- Do include survey info in the final ECR for the LS3
Kia's & Jean-Frederic (blue) notes:
Thanks a lot for the fruitful meeting, I’m writing here few notes before I forget 😊.
- 4 instruments in total to be installed in LS3 in LSS4: 1 horizontal, 1 vertical, left and right of the LSS.
- Magnet and vacuum chamber are two separate elements to be aligned independently. The parallelism of the magnet with the flange of the instrument is crucial for the correct functioning of the instrument.
- It is noted that the girder itself might be at a slight angle after its final installation, but the magnet positioning can be adjusted freely using its alignment table.
- The alignment ancillaries and adjustment tables of the vacuum chambers are based on the SPS BGI and no comments or additional points have been made on the design. Frederic to ask Patrick for feedbacks from the BGI installation to the SPS, aiming at improving the system if needed. BE-GM feedback will be communicate before end of September
- The magnet top surface needs to be instrumented for alignment: the surface should be equipped with 4 points + 1 cylinder, on a part that cannot be detached from the magnets (i.e. avoid the covers). The aim is to have alignment references that are stable, there forever and visible in the tunnel. Gunn to put the alignment team in contact with Dominique Bodart (MSC).
- The design of the magnet will be decided this Autumn : a solution with a set of 3 small magnets is under consideration and will require a specific design solution to consider the alignment of a unique magnet assembly
Steps before installation in LS3:
- Add contribution of the alignment team to the ECR for the LS3 installation. Add the need of tracing on the floor ( beam positions IN and OUT of the instrument). (BE-GM will trace on the floor the vertical projection of the beam points, the input should be available in LDB few weeks earlier)
- Fiducialisation of the vacuum chambers and of the magnets à count a ballpark of 1 month to be reserved to alignment activities.
LS3 Installation:
- ½ day per IP side for the tracing
- ½ day per instrument for alignment of 2 components (= one magnet + 1 chamber)
- Still early to discuss on the schedule, considering the several shifts that are being discussed. As per today, the readiness of the instrument is set for Q4 2027.
