Description

I will discuss 2 -> 2 scattering in the regime where the wavelength of the scattered objects is comparable to the impact parameter but much larger than any Compton wavelength in the QFT. In this regime - which differs from the eikonal - the Feynman diagram expansion organizes itself naturally in terms of a geometric (or Born) series that iterates an effective “quantum mechanical” potential. We show that in a gravitation context the series becomes a perturbative solution of the Regge-Wheeler or Teukolsky equation. I will discuss two applications of this observation: determination of Love numbers and dissipative effects of compact objects and amplitudes in a Kerr background. (Online Talk)
