Description

With this workshop, we intend to bring together the leading research groups actively working in the field of advanced materials. It is our aim to promote and broaden the scientific community and to provide a forum for discussing the state of the art with respect to practical implementations as well as the underlying concepts and the relevance of nitride-based and related materials.

Registration will open in Spring 2025

Venue

The conference will take place in the Jagdschloss Niederwald in Rüdesheim on the Rhine River, Germany. The location of the workshop has a long history and goes back to 15th and 16th century. In July 1948 a meeting took place in the 'Grüner Salon', the so-called 'Niederwald Conference' with participation of Konrad Adenauer and the German heads of provinces, in which the foundation for today’s German Constitution was layed. In the mid - sixties the farming area was leased, and the Land of Hesse started step by step to convert the 'Jagdschloss' into a modern hotel and a place of exquisite hospitality suitable for the organization of such kind of exclusive scientific workshops. The location provides all the required features for hosting a small group of international experts to intensely present and discuss their newest research results in a quiet environment far from other activities. Moreover, the location is easily accessible from all over the world due to the neighboring international Frankfurt airport (1 h by public transport, 30 min by car).

Scope of the workshop:

There is an ever-growing demand for novel multifunctional materials to be used in technical applications, and the past advances opened new fields for the applications of nitride-based ceramics and composites. Considerable activity in this area resulted in the discovery and preparation of a number of new nitride compounds with novel physical and chemical properties, which have attracted attention as potential technological ceramics. The International Workshop on “Spinel Nitrides and Related Materials” will summarize the latest progress and developments of these activities and will cover a series of main session topics concerning the fundamental and application oriented research of advanced nitride-based compounds and materials. The following topics will be the focus of the conference:

  • Synthesis of Novel Materials including high-pressure-high-temperature Synthesis and Novel Synthesis Approaches
  • Processing and Sintering
  • Thermochemistry, Crystal Chemistry
  • Crystal Structure and Microstructure of Nitrides and Related Materials and its Characterization
  • Thin-Films
  • Porous Materials
  • High Entropy Nitrides and Carbonitrides
  • Materials Properties for Prospective Structural and Functional Applications
  • Correspondence of Nitrides and Structurally Related Oxides
  • Modelling of New Phases — Theoretical Prediction of Crystal Structures and Properties

The targeted audience is to bring together world-leading experts in the field of nitrides with students and young scientists in order to foster and strengthen the future research and development of this kind of novel and interesting ceramics with the potential of outstanding functional and structural properties far beyond that of existing materials.
