The Higgs boson’s beauty and charm 50m

Title: The Higgs boson’s beauty and charm: Higgs-boson decays to charm and beauty/bottom quarks at the ATLAS experiment

Abstract: Since the Higgs-boson discovery more than 10 years ago, its properties and interactions with other known (and unknown) elementary particles have been probed extensively. Yet many open questions around this unique particle remain that might be related to some of the most puzzling mysteries in Nature; e.g. why are there three generations of fermions with identical properties except for their masses? In this seminar, I will present the recently released results of the ATLAS experiment at the LHC on Higgs-boson decays to charm and beauty/bottom quarks, quarks of the 2nd and 3rd generation. In particular, I will explain how addressing the common experimental challenges of the similar final states coherently and using specialized analysis techniques, led to the most precise and comprehensive study of both. I will close by discussing future directions and prospects at the LHC and beyond.

Speaker: Hannah Arnold (Stony Brook University)
