ACTION ITEMS:

Winding tests (Elena & Ariel):

  • Tests pushing down the cable with new tooling to reduce the 1.5 mm protrusion in the lower part of the cable.
  • New winding tests piling up several turns (for instance, to better understand dishing effects and how they accumulate in the coil). At least 6-7 turns. To be decided if we want to do the experiment with a small fake coil (one straight + two flared ends), or just one flared end + straight section. Straight section in the order of 250 mm.
  • Trials using a clamping system in the ends to try to better control the coil length. Experience with racetrack coils (SMC, ERMC, RMM, etc) show that coils can get longer in axial direction in the order of 10 mm after winding.
  • New winding test with a top part simulating the coil winding having the pole on top.

Numerical modelling (Gloria):

  • Validate the 3D ANSYS mechanical modelling (against the 2D results). Use path plots in the coils, check strain/stress in the shell, force provided by the shell, etc.
  • 2D ANSYS model: Check the structure capability to operate at ultimate current. Check what happens if we push to ultimate with nominal pre-load. Check if we can pre-load up to ultimate with the structure. Compute the pre-load limit for the strucutre.
  • Get missing forces from Ariel. Refine the endplate design. Provide first ANSYS 3D results.

General remarks:

- Conductor unit length for one coil is 180 m.
