Abstract:
This talk will explore the synergy between Monte Carlo simulations and radiotherapy, particularly focusing on the integration of radioprotectors like cystamine and cysteamine in high-dose-rate FLASH radiotherapy. Using Monte Carlo methods, we assess how these compounds can improve the therapeutic index by reducing radiation damage to healthy tissues while maintaining efficacy in tumor treatment. Special emphasis will be placed on recent findings from simulations of the linear energy transfer (LET) and dose-rate effects in carbon ions and proton therapies. These insights contribute to the advancement of radioprotection in cancer treatments, with potential applications in clinical settings.
