The Efficient Particle Accelerators project at CERN - status and outlook

Room: 30/7-018 - Kjell Johnsen Auditorium In autumn 2023 the ATS management approved the Efficient Particle Accelerators (EPA) project at CERN with the goal to implement the findings of the Efficiency Think Tank report. The Efficiency Think Tank had demonstrated that the CERN accelerator complex has significant potential to optimise exploitation for more efficiency (energy, time, resources), flexibility and ultimately performance. Nine work packages in the Efficiency Particle Accelerators are tasked with implementing the recommendations and evolving the controls infrastructure accordingly. This contribution will summarise the findings of the Efficiency Think Tank and the goals of the EPA project with timeline and intermediate milestones. The potential for innovation in particular with AI/ML will also be highlighted.
