Dear CMS Colleague,
In order to submit your nomination through the submission form, please scroll down to the bottom of this page and click on the "Submit new abstract" button to open the submission form.
HOW TO FILL THE SUBMISSION FORM
Please find below the list of the fields and the relative information to be provided in the specific field.
-Title (required): Enter here the official title of the thesis.
-Authors (required): Enter here the first name, family name and current email of the thesis author (single author), either by a search among the indico users, or by entering the person information manually. Note: self-nominations are not permitted for this award.
-Comments (optional): You may enter here the CMS group(s) to which the thesis work is related. This can be a PAG, a POG, a DPG, PPD or any other group or project related to CMS.
-Attachments (required): Use this field to upload the required documents in pdf format:
- Your nomination letter (guidelines for the compilation of the nomination letter content are provided below (I)). The name(s) of
the letter file should be "NomineeLetter",where "Nominee" is the
family name of the thesis author. - The CV of the nominee, including
(i) a list (with links) of relevant presentations in CMS groups
meetings, internal notes, conference papers, and any other written
material documenting the contributions of the thesis author in the
context of their Ph.D. thesis work in CMS ; (ii) a short description
(up to one page) of the contributions that the thesis author
considers to be their most original and impactful work in the
context of the CMS group/project they contributed to. The name of the CV file should be "NomineeCV", where "Nominee" is the
family
name of the thesis author.
-Date of defense of this PhD thesis (required): Enter here the official date of the thesis defense. Please use the format DD/MM/YYYY. Note: Eligible theses for the CMS 2024 Thesis Award must have been successfully defended in the period between November 1st, 2023 and October 31st, 2024.
-Link to thesis in CDS (required): Enter here the link to the thesis in CDS. If needed, find in (II) instructions on the THESIS UPLOAD.
After completing your nomination submission form, click on the "Submit" button at the end of the form. You will receive an automatic mail to acknowledge your nomination. The nominee will receive this mail as well, but will not have access to the nomination letter.
Please note that the committee members are bound to confidentiality and will not disclose the provided nomination material, unless explicitly authorized by the nominator.

(I) GUIDELINES FOR NOMINATION LETTERS
In order for the Thesis Award Committee to fairly and accurately evaluate a nomination, the nomination letter should provide the Committee with the relevant information.
Therefore, please make sure that your letter explicitly addresses the following points.
• Please assess the amount and the quality of original work carried out by the thesis author in the thesis context. Which original solutions did the thesis author propose, develop and implement? To which degree did the thesis author's research work provide unique knowledge that was not available from previous research?
• If the work was shared with other people, please illustrate the
individual contribution of the thesis author and assess its impact on
the success of the common effort.
• Please assess the scientific and/or technical quality of the thesis manuscript.
(II) THESIS UPLOAD TO ICMS AND CDS: The nominated thesis must be available in iCMS and CDS. Please check with the thesis author that this is the case. If the thesis is not uploaded to CDS yet, please ask the nominee to submit the thesis to the CERN Thesis collection on CDS. If the thesis is not uploaded to iCMS yet, please ask the nominee to submit the thesis through iCMS:
• log into iCMS.
• scroll to CMS Publications
• under "Submission", click on "New Thesis" and complete the form
• To the question “Presented at Thesis Award Committee”, select the “Yes” option.
• It is recommended that the nominee uploads the thesis to iCMS/CDS well (at least two weeks) in advance of the call deadline in view of a timely submission of the nomination material.
