nuSTORM regular meeting

Europe/London
    • 14:00 14:10
      Flux calculation status 10m
Speakers: Paul Kyberd, Dr Paul Kyberd, Paul Kyberd (Brunel University (GB)), Rohan Kamath (Imperial College London), Rohan Krishna Kamath
      1. Flux with normalisation is in principle ready
        1. Paul K./Rohan: agreed on the quality, waiting for the official release.
        2. Version: 2501v1 (2501 is when the current configuration is approved; v1 is the first release, having in mind new momenta come later in higher v's)
        3. Lowest energy:
          1. 206v2 has 0.57 GeV/c^2 muon, which is not consistent with our design
          2. Will have 1.16 GeV/c^2 muon as the lowest for the new set of fluxes (1.52 GeV/c^2 already available)
            1.  Schedule: Paul J.: FLUKA needs to be regenerated for the 1.16 GeV/c^2, latest end of February
      2. Plan (see diagram)

      1. Next steps for preparing the UK’s national input to 2026 Update to the European Strategy for Particle Physics

Thank you to everyone who participated in the second drafting day at UCL on 9th January: https://indico.stfc.ac.uk/event/1183/timetable/?view=standard

Following the fruitful discussions the drafting team are now preparing a first draft of the UK’s national input which will be submitted on 31st March 2025. As agreed on January 9th, this 10-page document will aim to capture the discussions to date but will not attempt to prioritise any alternative “plan B” options for future colliders at CERN nor provide prioritisation of non-collider projects. These topics will be revisited on the next drafting day which is scheduled for 28th April at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (please save the date), such that the national input can be updated prior to the open symposium in June.

We would like to share with the community proposed timescales for circulating the draft for comments (which will be done through the Hi-Phi mailing list and through the list of registrants for the January drafting day):

        ·         ~17th February - 3rd March: first circulation of draft of UK input around the community, with invitation to provide feedback/comments.

        ·         ~3rd-14th March: the drafting team will work to implement comments.

        ·         ~14th-21st March: circulation of final draft around the community. We hope that comments received at this stage would be mainly clarification/editorial points.

We are sharing these now in the hope that members of the community can allocate time to read/review the draft when circulated (we appreciate it is a busy time).

If anyone has questions or would like to discuss the process further please contact Sarah Williams (sarah.louise.williams@cern.ch), Ruben Saakyan (r.saakyan@ucl.ac.uk ) and Jim Clarke (jim.clarke@stfc.ac.uk )

        1. Observation:
          1. mainly collider discussion in the 9th Jan. meeting.
          2. Ruben Saakyan to contact for input
      2. Neutrinos@CERN follow-up:
        1. nuSTORM's contribution in the muon collider document ongoing (involved in the Demonstrator Chapter, but probably better in Staging Chapter?), time pressured.
        2. budget-wise, MC demonstrator is smaller than nuSTORM
        3. New idea: muon campus at CERN, standalone document to follow.

Plan for conferences in 2025 10m
      1. Dear Colleagues,

The ongoing Update of the European Strategy for Particle Physics will guide the direction of the field for the forthcoming years. A major step to involve the community at large in the process is the discussion of the submitted inputs which will take place at the Open Symposium in Venice Lido (Italy) on 23 - 27 June 2025. All the scientific and organisational details of the Symposium can be found at:

The period for registration is now open. The attendance fee is 350 euros for registrations received before April 13. The late registration fee is 450 euros. A reduction is granted for students and the fees amount to 200 (300) euros for early (late) registrations. The registration includes the welcome reception, coffee breaks, social dinner and conference material. Four lunches (Monday to Thursday) are included in the conference fee as well. They will be served at the premises of the Conference Centre. The registration period closes on June 13.

Information concerning travel to and accommodation in Venice is available via the web page.

The layout of the scientific programme of the Symposium is available at https://agenda.infn.it/event/44943/program.

Should you have any further questions, please address them to es2025_contact@lists.infn.it.

Looking forward to welcoming you in Venice.

Sandra Malvezzi on behalf of the Local Organising Committee,
Karl Jakobs on behalf of the Strategy Secretariat and the Physics Preparatory Group
