Notes

2025 Prototype Targets

  • Table
    • Base table ball bearing arriving today
    • Currently preparing table to assemble support of target in 867 and connector from CEM/Jerome
    • Supports for lifting frame are being machined and ready soon to be welded.
    • Just waiting for pipe components
  • Glue tests
    • Holes via machining have been performed. Limit is 7 mm in depth.
      • ACTION Mike ->Discuss with Patrick about parameters used for machining holes and keep track of it (e.g. quick note in DFS)
      • ACTION Alvaro -> check again holes with electro erosion
  • Mock-up tests
    • Truls meeting this Friday with Sergio to have a look at the mock-up of the prototype.
  • Core blocks production
    • Mike provided list of drawings.
    • 3 type of cladding capsules. 31 drawings in total.
      • ACTION Steven -> start by drawings of W plates, Ta discs and Tantalum tube (with variable length) to allow procurement of raw material.
      • ACTION Mike -> Check expansion of Aluminium block.
    • Few quotations received for HIPing. Fraunhofer is the best both in price and lead time.
    • Asking for quotation including machining, EBW, cleaning, UT on top of HIPing. But FH first want to know more deeply what cleaning process before HIPing, and other details.

2026 Prototype Target

  • Design
    • Emmanuele starting prototype design by taking the final design
    • Two half frames in inox
    • 3 parallel channels. Gaps maintained by calibrated screw (4 mm)
      • ACTION Mike/Alvaro -> review gap sensitivity study to define required tolerances.
    • Flange also has sort of washer blocking back flow of He between
      • Emmanuele and Luca will discuss with Technitics about helicoflex solutions for the prototype.
      • Flange even if thick will likely move, so helicoflex is likely better than a Cu seal.
    • Core parts will be cantered with rollers (e.g. like 2018 prototype.
  • Integration
    • Integration on the table still to be done
    • ACTION Steven -> to send step file of the table
  • Vessel
    • Luca will present at the main workshop by the end of month. By then will be seen if having the vessel in inconel718 poses issues on the planning
    • A priori, such vessel diameter and thickness can withstand 25bar pressure at 200C.
      • ACTION Mike -> Mike to look at pressure vessel calculation.
  • Handling
    • ACTION Emmanuel -> to add lifting for robot
    • Guarantee space for robot to unscrew flange (have only thread on one side of the CERN CDS photos
  • Instrumentation
    • Better if not used the brazzed connector.
    • For this prototype, the goal is to use inconel sleeved thermocouples
    • ACTION STI/CEM/Jerome -> Send datasheet of thermocouples. Will send the datasheet,
    • ACTION Emmanuel -> add feedthroughs. Maybe downstream bombed surface can be a simple gasket

Material characterization

  • Patrick new in the team. Discussing with Mike/Katie et all in the afternoon for "immersion" in the project
  • Charpy tests
    • Got new quotation for test at RT in both directions (~3500 CHF).
    • ACTION Katie -> prepare DAI
  • Fatigue
    • Waiting for the results from the Charpy tests and decide for fatigue.
    • New quote from SincoTec received including machining costs. Also sample sizes can be reduced to 160mm length.

TSAC

  • ACTION all speaker (Rui/Mike/Katie/Patrick/Luca/Francesco) -> Prepare presentation skeleton, add key bullets (see indico of dry run) and identify what points can be covered and to what extent. Propose content structure for the slides.
  • ACTION Mike -> Mike to liaise with Jerome to include some early considerations/technical details on instrumentation and control system in the slides.
