Description

Workshop Description

The continuing evolution of large-scale control systems in operating facilities presents a wide range of challenges, from day-to-day operational management to long-term strategic planning. This workshop seeks to identify key inefficiencies and explore actionable strategies for improvements. Participants will engage in discussions on operational and technical management, state assessment, strategic planning, standardization, automation, maintainability, workflows, and more - all with an emphasis on increasing efficiency and ensuring long-term sustainability. We will examine case studies from accelerator and experimental physics facilities, showcasing practical solutions within existing infrastructures.

Building on the success of the first edition, "Efficiency through Automation" at ICALEPCS 2023, this highly interactive workshop continues the conversation with fresh insights and tangible tools. Join us to explore strategies, share challenges, exchange experiences, and gain valuable ideas for driving efficiency and sustainability improvements in your facility.

Intended audience

Controls systems software engineers, operations coordinators, system analysts.

        Accelerator Fault Tracking and Efficiency

The CERN Accelerators consist of multiple complex systems, where faults can cause downtime and impact availability. To effectively maintain and improve such an environment, it is essential to identify and measure the root causes of reduced availability, with a strong focus on efficiency. This presentation shares 10 years of experience with Fault Tracking, providing concrete examples of how this data can be leveraged by different users to work toward a more efficient future.
