Update on preparation for European Strategy Update 20m
Speaker: Kenneth Richard Long (Imperial College (GB))

First draft of the UK’s national input to the 2026 European Strategy for Particle Physics [deadline for comments 3rd March] and registration open for third drafting day on 28th April

Many thanks to everyone who participated in two community drafting days on 4th November (https://conference.ippp.dur.ac.uk/event/1391/ ) and 9th January (https://indico.stfc.ac.uk/event/1183/overview). The drafting team has now produced a first draft of the UK input to the ESPPU which we are circulating for community comments. The draft, and instructions on how to submit comments can be found here:

      https://indico.stfc.ac.uk/event/1434/

      Please note the following:

      - In cases (particularly q3c, q3e and q4a) we are not providing any prioritisation of alternative/non-collider options, which will hopefully be added following the next community drafting day in April.

      - The deadline for the first round of comments is noon on Monday 3rd March. At this point the google doc will be made read-only.

      - We anticipate circulating a final version of the input to the community for a week around 14th March but anticipate that comments at this point should be minor. Please aim to provide all substantial comments on this version of the draft.

In addition to circulation of the draft, we’d like to share a few additional announcements:

      - Registration for the next community drafting day on 28th April (at RAL) is now open:https://indico.stfc.ac.uk/event/1430/. As with previous days both in-person and remote participation are supported. Registration (for all types) will close on Monday 14th April at noon.

      - We are happy to announce that Davide Costanzo and Mark Williams have kindly agreed to join the drafting coordination team for the coming months.

With that in mind, if there are further questions on the process for the coming months please contact Sarah Williams, Ruben Saakyan, Jim Clarke, Davide Costanzo and Mark Williams
