Joint WP4/5/6 TCC8 Dismantling meeting #3

Europe/Zurich

-          Updates on TCC8 dismantling studies

o   New estimates of the residual dose rates for the majority of beamline equipment with additional cool-down time of 1 y and 2 months (Sep. 2027)

o   Refined estimates of residual dose rates of the concrete shielding blocks as well as the empty tunnel

o   Excel file was updated with updates highlighted in yellow

o   A detailed technical note was written (EDMS 3231235) and is currently in review

-          Discussion

o   Possibilities of shielding of TCC8 floor hot spots and location of future dilution magnets to be clarified with WP2. Action/Claudia

o   Jean-Louis proposes to investigate the dismantling of the XTAX blocks in TCC8 as too large/heavy for a standard waste disposal container. The dismantling contractor could be used. Yann points out contamination risks of XTAX hole and that the TCC2 XTAX blocks are first stored in b954 for cool-down. Action/Jean-Louis/Nicolas to check dismantling possibilities in TCC8 and rough dose estimate

o   The target station shielding blocks can easily be separated from each other

o   Several items need (XTAX, TCX, target station…) are significantly above the transport limit of 2 mSv/h and require additional shielding. Action/Claudia to organize an RP internal meeting with RP-AS/CS/RWM to discuss transport and waste requirements and container shielding studies

o   A dismantling sequence will be established like the one for CNGS. Action/Nicolas to lead this activity together with Ixone

o   A rough dose estimate is to be established and provided as input to Ans Pardons. Action/Nicolas/Jean-Louis

o   Action/Elzbieta to upload draft Technical Note and share with others

o   Action/Jean-Louis to share Excel file with selection of waste items for radioactive waste forecast. Radioactive storage requests were done.
