A KOTOII Workshop will be hosted at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz from Saturday 13th to Sunday 14th of September. The workshop will close the week dedicated to Kaon Physcis, following the KAON2025 Conference hosted in Mainz from September 8th to 12th.
KOTOII is a new proposed experiment at J-PARC (Japan) to measure the branching ratio of the decay of a neutral kaon to a neutral pion and a neutrino-antineutrino pair KL → 𝜋o𝜈𝜈¯ . The decay is predicted within the Standard Model (SM) with a branching ratio of 3 x 10-11 and a theoretical uncertainty of about 2%. The KOTOII experiment aims to measure the branching ratio with a sensitivity below 10-12 in 2030s, achieving a 5 sigma discovery of the decay assuming the SM branching ratio. Furthermore, studies of other rare/forbidden neutral kaon decays (e.g. the not yet observed KL → 𝜋oe+e-), as well as, searches for New Physics beyond the Standard Model (e.g. searches for dark photons, axion-like particles, ...) will be conducted at KOTOII.
