nuSCOPE Workshop

nuSCOPE is a collaboration formed as a result of the merging of the ENUBET and NuTag collaborations. The collaboration is investigating the physics potential and feasibility of a short-baseline neutrino beam experiment at CERN, using a monitored and tagged neutrino beam. Thanks to its unprecedented control over the neutrino flux, such a facility is uniquely positioned to perform precise measurements of neutrino-nucleus scattering processes, thus tackling the main source of systematic uncertainty for future long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiments.
nuSCOPE has submitted an input document to the 2026 European Strategy for Particle Physics Update (see its accompanying document https://arxiv.org/abs/2503.21589 ). As part of this document, nuSCOPE reported a first assessment of the physics reach of a cross-section experiment using a monitored and tagged beamline, and used a simplistic detector design . In order to refine these studies, and investigate areas of synergy with other experimental designs, we are hosting a two-day workshop at CERN. The workshop has the following goals:

Inform the community on aspects related to beam design and instrumentation and invite inputs

Gather suggestions and interest in possible neutrino detector designs

Discuss the physics goals of the experiment
We are eager to receive feedback on all of these aspects from the broader community.
After these two days, we will have a one day-long “kick-off” open collaboration meeting to discuss aspects related to beam design and instrumentation, detector technologies, physics reach and next steps. All workshop participants are cordially invited to attend this meeting to help the collaboration during its initial steps. A detailed agenda will be finalized soon.
