Description

Abstract: The next generation of synchrotron sources, such as SLS 2.0, are beginning to come online, bringing with them an increased flux of higher-energy photons (>20 keV). At these higher energies, silicon is no longer a viable detection medium, prompting the search for alternative materials with greater stopping power, such as high-Z compounds. The PSI Detector Group continues to develop advanced detector systems for light sources. In this talk, we will explore the group’s detector portfolio, discussing the respective advantages and disadvantages of photon counters and charge integrators. We will also present recent efforts to characterize CZT and GaAs:Cr sensors using the JUNGFRAU ASIC, with reference to applications in related fields such as medical physics and astronomy, where these materials are already well established.
