2025 EIROforum Workshop on Cryogenics

Europe/Zurich
Description

The 2025 EIROforum Topical Workshop on Cryogenics, organised by the Instrumentation Working Group, will be held from 14th &15th October 2025.

The workshop will be hosted by ESO, as an in-person event.

The workshop will be focused on the latest developments and applications of cryogenics and vacuum technology at the various EIROForum organizations:

  • Fundamental principles, use cases and design of vacuum & cryogenic systems.
  • Techniques and challenges in achieving and maintaining ultra-high vacuum environments.
  • Operation and maintenance of vacuum & cryogenic systems.
  • R&D and recent advancements in vacuum & cryogenic technology.

This workshop will feature keynote presentations, interactive sessions, a lab tour through the ESO facilities, and networking opportunities, providing a platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange.

EuXFEL - Machine Safety in control and automation

The European Machinery Directive and the newly enacted Machinery Regulation impose stringent requirements on the design and implementation of control hardware, particularly those based on PLCs. In large research institutes, an efficient implementation of these controls is crucial, especially considering the diverse origins and involvement of external entities in the development and design process. The ISO 12100 and ISO 13849 standards provide a clear roadmap for compliance, which is currently integrated into the workflows at EuXFEL. This presentation will provide a concise overview of machine safety and the approach adopted at EuXFEL, fostering an opportunity for discussion and exchange on this topic.
