Description

Ongoing activities include, but are not limited to:
Jet tagging [CMS-DP-2025-032]
Electron reconstruction [CMS-DP-2023-047, CMS-DP-2024-098]
Vertex reconstruction (usage in correlator) [CMS-DP-2021-035, CMS-DP-2022-020]
ML for Puppi
Event selection (especially VBF, di-Higgs)
Soft tau reconstruction in the Level-1 Data Scouting system

CERN group/ Experiment

EP-CMG, NGT

Working area Area 2: Optimal AI deployment for Online Data Processing
Project goals Deliver ML models that increase the acceptance of the Phase 2 Level 1 Trigger, especially for CMS Phase 2 priorities centralized around the Correlator (mostly) and Global Trigger (somewhat) subsystems extension to the Level-1 Data Scouting (no fixed-latency requirements, inference also on conventional GPUs or other accelerators as in the HLT) Operate ML models in the Phase 2 Level 1 Trigger (calibration, monitoring, automated retraining)
Timeline Funded by NGT (mainly Task 3.6) up to 2029, with contributions from some CMG staff
Available person power Several staff, fellows, doctoral and technical students in CMG, and many other User contributors in CMS
Additional person power request none
Is this an already ongoing activity? Yes
Indicative hardware resources needs Access to a GPU cluster with LCG-like software stack and cvmfs access with fast storage facilities across the full duration of the project. FPGAs for testing
