      Physics

At HRS, post-accelerated ²⁰⁶Hg beams are being sent to the Miniball experiment for the third experiment in their plunger campaign this year. The focus is on measuring lifetimes of excited states, with the goal of studying nuclear structure around the doubly magic ²⁰⁸Pb nucleus. The experiment is very grateful for the efforts done by the machine supervisors which meant that the experiment could start 1 day earlier. So far, the experiment is going smoothly, and if things continue like this, it seems likely that the users will be able to successfully complete their physics goals by Thursday. It’s also the first experiment in a while without major problems, so hopefully this continues like this 🙂.

      Schedule

      • Test combining pulses on MEDICIS low-trolley and on HRS target in same supercycle end of September, like we tested in 2023?
      • Hanne on holidays from Thursday 31/7 - Monday 11/8
        • Start-up meeting for next week ISOLTRAP experiment and collection on Friday - requested by users
