Discussion on the Characterization of AIDAInnova Related Productions

Requested: Second week of the test beam, starting October 8th

Devices Under Test (DUT)

  • TI-LGADs (V1):
    • Proposed list of devices from Iskra's talk attached in the indico. Priority: V1.
    • Fluence points: 1.5E15, 2.5E15, 0 (from UZH). Need to add and check 0.8E14 sample.
    • We need to calculate how much time is required per batch (at least 3 days).
    • Assume that one batch can accommodate DUTs for each fluence.
  • 3D Devices: Fresh and irradiated 3D-trenched from FBK (AIDAInnova), and DS 3D-columnar from IMB-CNM (RD50).
    • Trenched 3D at CERN and irradiated in IRRAD: ~50 structures in 16 samples, equally shared among fluences:
      Φ = 1×1016, Φ = 2.5×1016, Φ = 5×1016, Φ = 1×1017
    • Unclear how many unirradiated samples are at CERN.
    • IFCA will provide the UCSC board to be mounted at CERN.
    • Need to confirm status of irradiated CNM columnar 3D samples at JSI (irradiation point, radioprotection clearance).

Front-End

  • UCSC boards + second-stage amplifier (per Vagelis’ suggestion: link). To buy the amplifiers.
    Note: second stage reduces SNR by approximately ½ according to specifications.

Sample Packaging

  • At CERN: mounting 3D-trenched devices on UCSC boards.
  • At JSI: irradiated TI-LGADs on Chubut2.
  • At JSI: non-irradiated TI-LGADs on Chubut2.

Cold Box Equipment

  • Five XY piezo stages for DUT and one additional XY piezo stage for reference sensor.
  • Single DUT per frame.
  • Suppor frames availability for Chubut2 and UCSC (to locate or/and manufacture)
  • Cooling box: request transfer to the H6 area.
  • Missing AIDA chiller and water cooler (contact: Andre).
  • Need to remove/relocate horizontal aluminum profile of the telescope supporting frame (used as cable tray) to prevent collisions with the cooling box.
  • Motorized heavy-duty stages (missing end-of-limit switches):
    • Resetting position could move cooling box too far, risking cable and tube breakage.
    • Movement remains under expert control (Andre or Vagelis).
    • Recommendation: disconnect the large stage after alignment for safety.

Reference Plane

  • Design proposed by Vagelis: HPK LGAD + UCSC board + second-stage amplifier feeding two digitizers (via RF splitter).

Power Supplies

  • Need to clarify availability of HV power supplies.

DAQ

  • TI-LGAD:
    • Same DAQ as April 2025 test beam.
  • 3D Pixels:
    • Proposal: use a Tektronics MS064-6B from the CERN Electronics Pool.
    • Suggested arrangement (Vagelis): link.
    • Note: no EUDAQ producer available for high-bandwidth oscilloscopes.
    • Dedicated meeting required.
