Salient points of the meetings

There were about 23 connections. We briefly talked about ASFAP Symposium date and logistics. The date is November 17-21, 2025, at the ICTP in Trieste, Italy. UNESCO has issued an invitation letter to the people who may need it for Schengen visa application or justify absence at the place of work or seek travel coverage from their institutes. 20 rooms have been reserved at the ICTP for African participants most in need for travel coverage. Other in-person participants are encouraged to arrange their own accommodation in Trieste and shuttle to the ICTP with public transportation.

Fernando Quevedo recommended that we reach out to TWAS for participation in the symposium. He will connect us with the TWAS Executive Director.

We reviewed the draft timetable, the details of which will be fleshed out towards our next meeting.

We requested that the ASFAP Advisory Committee (IAC) discusses among themselves to identify a speaker among their ranks to present their feedback and recommendations at the symposium. Rob Adam will initiate the discussion within the IAC.

We also solicit regional inputs during the symposium. For Latin America, Fernando Quevedo will reach out to colleagues there to identify a speaker.

For the symposium, in the interest of time, we will have joint presentations by related fields followed discussions. 4 major areas of related fields with considered, namely Societal Engagements, Light Sources & Applications, Particles & Applications, and Cross-cutting fields. The details of these areas will be fleshed out before our next meeting.

Recommendation prioritization is outside the scope of current work and should be addressed subsequently during implementation phases. However, a summary of the recommendations from each chapter, summary which appears in Executive Summary, may be improved.

Our next meeting will be on September 24. We expect the comments from the reviewers to be addressed by then, and we will discuss the agenda in more details.
