IHEP MCBRD Weekly meeting

Europe/Zurich

Attendance : Rui Kang, Susana Izquierdo, A Foussat

Record of meeting 08/09/25:

The meeting focused on the findings during the inspection post warm up of IHEP test cryostat following issues on last CB26 aperture cold test .

  • The inspection of the newly installed instrumentation connectors although designed with longer tracking lengths between pins shown some local burn-outs between those pins both for CB22 and CB26 connectors. The maximum breakdown voltage is found at 400 V.
  • Careful inspection of the cryostat shown some further burnout between thermal shields and current leads. Insulation level is found around 200V.

Action items:

  • The ongoing inspection and investigation of IHEP test cryostat is persued and the conclusions shall be shared with CERN for common interest.
  • Following internal exchange and communication with Xu Qingjin about the options for continuation, it was confirmed that the preferred way to proceed is to replace as proposed by IHEP both CB22, CB26 coils affected by a set of new coils.
  • CERN confirmed that given current situation of coil test cryostat, the preferred cooling strategy is to receive at CERN from now on the MBRD magnets assembled with virgin coils
  • IHEP shall communicate the new updated schedule with the manufacture of new parts and final two coils ( MBRD10) and delivery of coming next magnet MBRD08, 09 to be cold acceptance tested at CERN SM18. In case of repair need IHEP shall be responsible for implementing related measures.
