Main points of discussion / information :
- Planning of North Area for LS3 (dependent on NA-CONS) is not available yet. For the time being. the main relevant information for MADMAX are:
- Cooling water may not be available Sep 2026 - Oct 2027 (dates still in discussion). Possible mitigation for Morpurgo cooling is not clear.
- Possible for MADMAX to stay up to May 2029
- Update on service group dependence for North Area LS3 planning will be presented at the EATM Meeting 28-Oct. 14:00
- 3 articles published by MADMAX using the CERN installations on engineer side (JINST 19 (2024) T11002, JINST 20 (2025) T02005) and physics side (PRL 135 (2025) 041001) validating the MADMAX concept called dielectric haloscope.
- Motivation for 3 separate physics runs of 3 months each which allow to scan different part of the phase space and have different version of the booster. Flexibility for the time slots during LS3.
- Booster components all available. They will be assembled and tested in Hamburg in 2026.
- CERN infrastructure in the Morpurgo area: dedicated rails (already available but will need to be reworked a bit before final installation), ladder and tent for mounting the booster. All will be discussed with Michael Lazzaroni / Sylvain Girod in a meeting taking place 2-Oct 2025. For the ladder, it can be manufactured at CERN or bought by the experiment (in which case it needs to have CERN safety validation)
- Cryostat:
- Received in Hamburg in Spring 2025 and in the process of being accepted: first cooldown (4 weeks) , warm up (2 weeks) performed. Estimate 150 L of LHe and no need of LN2.
- Some problems still to be fixed with the company that manufactured the cryostat (will happen next week).Tentative arrival at CERN by end of 2026.
- Once Site Acceptance Test confirmed, i.e. final configuration of the cryostat known, discussing with safety can start
- Will need to rent a chiller for running the cryocoolers (70 kW).
Next meeting to be foreseen early November after the completion of NA-CONS planning to define the potential time slots for the 3 MADMAX runs. Doodle will be send out by Maarten.
