Beyond scale variations: perturbative theory uncertainties from nuisance parameters

I will discuss a new approach to quantify theory uncertainties due to
missing higher orders using theory nuisance parameters (TNPs), which
overcomes many of the well-known and long-standing shortcomings of the
traditional scale-variation approach. I will first give a pedagogical
introduction to the basic ideas and concepts behind TNPs. I will then
discuss its first real-world applications to theory predictions and in fits to
experimental data, where one of its key benefits is to allow for a consistent
      profiling of theory uncertainties.

Speakers: Frank Tackmann (Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DE)), Frank Tackmann
