ROOT Team Meeting
News
---
- Don't hesitate to write your abstract for CHEP!
- Pow: doing fine, currently at 63%
- We're a bit slow on tackling the issues
- precisation: the number of open issues per month is approx constant (~50 per month).
- bertrand: imho we should not count all issues the same way, some are there just as reminders
- jonas: the problem with counting differently is everything you do is biased one way or another
so the simplest way to count is usually the best. Also, decreasing the number is not necessarily
the right metric/expectation.
- danilo: we started with 1500+ issues in github+jira and did a lot to reduce them, which is good
because it was maybe sending the wrong message. We need to see if this metric needs to change and
if so how to communicate this. Another reason why the number didn't go down as much probably has to
do with how much work went into PoW items.
Important Dates
---
- Silia gave a nice talk to PyHEP
- next important: users workshop in Valencia
Meeting summaries
---
- Sergey has been helping with jsroot on CERNBox, found a couple of problems in jsroot access to CERNBox
- I/O: met with Chris (see I/O meeting notes: https://codimd.web.cern.ch/WxpDM1BST0W2Sr5mkmJb6w#)
- ML4EP: danilo: I asked Lorenzo what is the role of ROOT for ML in the SFT group; the baseline agreement is
we will have a meeting in Dec to show what we have in ROOT for inference (batch gen, 0 copy training, SOFIE, ...)
and query what are the needs of our colleagues in SFT where ROOT could have a role.
Liaisons
---
- Nothing from DUNE
- ALICE: another ping about increased memory usage by ROOT (probably in loading modules).
J.: we need them to share more technical details if this is to be properly tackled.
Round Table
---
Bertrand: I have a working asan build on Windows
Danilo: let's see with Vincenzo if we can put asan on the CI
