NA CONS monthly meeting - ECN3 dilution monitor #1
→
Europe/Zurich
**Date:** 15 October 2025
**Present:** David G., David B., Miguel N., Aurélie G.
• **Alignment Precision:**
- Aurélie raised the question of achievable precision for alignment and the accuracy of position measurements.
- She will contact Camille to determine the best approach.
- It is assumed that the situation is similar to NACONs, implying the need for UAP support and three reference points located close to the instrument center.
• **Grid Design:**
- Aurélie mentioned that the bands are preferred over the wires.
- Discussion with Christophe is needed to clarify how the grids are manufactured and what the limiting constraints are.
- Current minimum parameters: 0.5 mm band width and 0.2 mm spacing.
- Open question: is the limiting factor the band width or the band gap?
• **Presentation by David G.:**
- David presented the BDM concept and preliminary simulation results.
- The presentation covered the purpose of the Beam Dilution Monitor (BDM), its technical specifications, placement upstream of the target, and simulation results for different materials (Ti and W), geometries, and pitch configurations.
- The key findings included a baseline model with 32 bands, a 4 mm pitch, and 50 cm separation, showing that Ti provides stronger signal response than W.
- The design must account for sweeping patterns and minimize material impact while ensuring robustness and precise alignment.
• **Thermal Simulation:**
- David G. will simulate the heat-up of the wire during the sweep to evaluate potential thermal stress or damage.
