Observation of the upsilon to ditau process and search for a low mass resonance decaying to ditau using data scouting at CMS 1h

A presentation of the first observation of the upsilon meson decaying to tau leptons at a hadron collider and and the first Run-3 Scouting inclusive search for light resonances using hadronic taus. Data scouting at CMS has lowered thresholds allowing for reco-level trigger limited analyses to gain significant sensitivity at the cost of reduced information per event. An innovative scouting-based hadronic tau object was implemented in 2022-2023 CMS data using particle flow and has been shown to be sensitive down to 5 GeV by opening the tau cone. In addition to observing the upsilon, this object was used to search for a low mass scalar boson decaying to di-tau. This work represents the first inclusive di-tau search with a hadronic signature from 20 to 60 GeV in mass.
