RF distribution over White Rabbit: Test under real life conditions 50m Zoom conference room (Virtual Event)

      Zoom conference room

      Virtual Event

The RF distribution system of the LHC is responsible for sending copies of its Bunch Clock and revolution frequency from the RF system controlling the cavities to the experiments. These signals are used by the experiments to achieve synchronisation of detectors with the beam. During LS3 the RF distribution system will be replaced by a White Rabbit based solution (an IEEE standard invented at CERN distributing timing over ethernet). A test campaign was launched to assess the performance of the new system under real life conditions. Therefore, a demonstrator network and monitoring system were put in place at the beginning of the year, both in CMS pit and in SR4, where the RF Low-Level Control Loop is implemented.
This talk will give an overview of the Test network and Monitoring system, discuss the challenges we faced during the campaign and some of the results obtained over the last few months.
