2. News from the press office (Sophie + James)
To help prepare for future discovery announcements, the press office requests a list of interviewees from experiments on a variety of subjects. Preparations are underway for fast set-up of a media centre and stand up interview slots in the case of a discovery seminar. Expected attendance : of the order of 100 journalists.
Action press office : email resumé of all their requirements to the experiments.
Action experiments : Request from the press office: Please tell members of your experiment that the press office should be involved when press visit the site. Refer them to link on press office website “for CERN people.” (https://press.web.cern.ch/press/internal/ForCERNPeople.html)
--CERN Google earth content is currently blocked by a Swiss law that does not allow surface capture in CH. Google is a possible channel for using material filmed by Liz Mermin.
--CERN has had 2 approaches from Imax film-makers, neither is likely to give rise to a film in the near future.
--ICHEPP – Discussion for improved media strategy is underway with Geoff Taylor along the lines of AAAS – building media programme into the conference.
EPPCN report (James)
There will be an event linked to the special meeting of the CERN council in Brussels Spring 2013. It should be member state driven. There will also be a brochure and a press conference to launch the updated European Strategy for Particle Physics and a round table discussion with an intentionally provocative title “can we afford big science?”
