Description

Abstract: What does it take to help developers keep up with the speed of AI? At AMD, the answer has meant rethinking how ROCm - the open software stack for programming AMD GPUs - is built, tested, and released. In this talk I describe that transition from a DevOps perspective: the open-source TheRock build system, the shift-left testing doctrine that makes faster release cycles possible, and reflections on the role of modern AI tooling and team practices along the way. I will close with a few lessons from my CERN years that still shape how I work today.

Bio: Dr. Laura Promberger is a DevOps engineer at AMD, where she works on the CI/CD infrastructure behind ROCm - AMD's open software stack for GPU computing - and its open-source build system TheRock. Her work spans build and test automation and supporting component teams. Before joining AMD in September 2025, she spent eight years at CERN focused on performance engineering, first in LHCb as a Technical and then Doctoral Student, and most recently as a Senior Applied Fellow in EP-SFT, where she was a core developer of the distributed file system CVMFS.

This seminar is part of the CERN STEAM Academy Seminar Series.

Networking cocktail will follow the seminar.

With the support of CERN's Next Generation Triggers Project.
