ADTC meeting
- Machines status (Laurette)
The machines availability and deceleration efficiencies are very good, even beating last year records, which were excelptional already. Some instabilities in ELENA efficiencies being investigated (linked mostly to the beam quality injected from AD and the AD e-cooler performances). All experiments taking beam, apart from PUMA and BASE yet. TELMAX taking beam too (PAX test setup), without limitation from beam availability so far.
A few issues mainly from quads power supplies and e-cooler cathode power supply. More investigations needed.
Successful tests of injection of Dminus (deuterium ions) in ELENA from the ion source, using heavy water. Only very minor settings to be changed. This is in preparation for possible later tests to decelerate antideuterium in AD + ELENA, if shown to be present in the existing pbar beams…
- AD e-cooler swap during LS3
2.1 Go-No Go process
Adriana showed the decision criteria that will allow to make the decision to start dismounting the existing e-cooler in AD, once enough confidence is acquired that the new one will perform well. It is reminded that a full scale complete test is not possible, ad elements will be tested individually mostly. Adriana showed the status of individual systems and the planning of the individual Go-no Go decisions. The Gun will be most critical item, with a decision expected towards the end of the year only.
The Risk matrix will be updated to reflect the current status. In case of negative tests results, the situation will be re-evaluated, taking into account the margin that exists today in the LS3 planning, since the critical path for restarting the beam is not with the e-cooler but rather the PS beam restart. In case of real issues preventing the works during LS3, we will evaluate if another slot can be proposed during a future YETS or if we have to wait till LS4.
An installation readiness review will be organized in June.
2.2 Installation scenario
William showed the status of all individual systems, showing a rather healthy situation overall. The (partial) pre-asssembly site located in bdg 250 is ready and available, allowing early phases to start soon. Magnets measurements started already.
The sequence and expected planning of the disassembly + installation activities was showed and is integrated in the overall AD LS3 planning, with healthy contingencies.
A few items remain to be cleared: Latest discussions regarding the cabling did not conclude on the best way to proceed (potentially new cables, better routing etc). Integration needs to be completed, in particular regarding the future access behind the new e-cooler, possibly requiring a new gangway to be designed/produced/installed.
The location of the new PLC also needs to be decided upon. The existing cooling skid may be replaced by a new one, TBD.
- AOB: Next meeting will take place on 30th April, focusing on LS3 activities organization and planning.
