Predictions for polarized vector bosons at the LHC 1h

The measurement of vector boson polarization provides a unique probe of the electroweak sector and of electroweak symmetry breaking, and plays an important role in distinguishing Standard Model effects from potential signals of new physics. Since massive vector bosons cannot be observed directly, their polarization must be inferred from the kinematics of their decay products, typically using polarized cross-section templates derived from Monte Carlo simulations.

In this seminar, I will introduce how such polarized predictions are constructed and discuss their current theoretical precision. Alongside recent phenomenological results, I will present the polarisation framework in the Monte Carlo event generator Sherpa, which makes Sherpa one of the few tools capable of delivering these polarisation templates at particle-level, including higher-order QCD effects.

Speaker: Diana Mareen Hoppe (Technische Universitaet Dresden (DE))
