Description

Anomalies in neutrino physics data have led theorists to suggest a fourth sterile neutrino, one that does not interact via the weak interaction but mixes with other neutrino mass states. MicroBooNE was built to investigate these theories and uses an 85-ton liquid argon time projection chamber to study neutrinos from the Booster Neutrino Beam and Neutrinos at the Main Injector beam at Fermilab. The talk will discuss the basics of neutrino physics, the results that suggest a sterile neutrino, and MicroBooNE's analysis that excludes theories of this fourth neutrino suggested by experiments.
