Question Time IMC LHCb Moderators
CERN
Question time for moderators participating in International Masterclasses 2026 with the LHCb measurement. The Twiki page with general information for the moderators is available here: https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/viewauth/Main/InternationalMasterclassesModeratorManual#Example_moderator_discussion_and
The exercise that the institutes will be working on is the measurement of a D0 lifetime, you can find all th einfromation here: https://lhcb-outreach.web.cern.ch/lhcbinternationalmasterclasses/d0-lifetime/
During the discussion of the results, the moderators are NOT expected to merge and show the results of the different institutes, you can directly ask them in turns for their results and make them discuss about them. Some suggested questions to ask can be found here: https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/viewauth/Main/InternationalMasterclassesModeratorManual#LHCb
It is important to stick to the planned time: starting at 16h and ending the call at 17h.
After the discussion of the results there should be the virtual visit, where a guide will connect to the call from the LHCb Control Room, to show a bit what we have in there and explain a few things (also important to present yourselves!). Apart from the CR the guides can also show a bit of the detector pieces that we have in the sirface exhibition This part should last around 5-7 minutes. After this, there is a video that can be played showing a virtual visit to the LHCb cavern and getting close to the experiment, which lasts 7 minutes. The video will be uploaded shortly in the twiki page.
From past experiences, the students like to hear about Machine Learning applications in the analysis, for example the selections that we make. But they are also very interested in knowing your personal experiences within the collaboration: where did you study, what did you do on your PhD, what do you do on your daily basis, etc.
