RILIS Laboratory upgrade project - activities update 5mSpeakers: Carlotta Porzio (CERN), Katerina Chrysalidis (CERN), Laura Lambert (CERN), Sebastian Rothe (CERN)
- Equipment
- FEC box for tape stn removed and temporarily stored
- Rack will be removed once teslameter removed - where to be better temporarily stored?
- 2x teslameters hopefully removed this thurs - keep teslameters functional for magnet powering tests?
- Protection to be confirmed in further detail tomorrow morning with onsite visit incl scaffolding responsible
- FEC box for tape stn removed and temporarily stored
- Cables
- Andy continuing this week with removal of cables inside RILIS lab (thanks for taking quick action allowing us to disassemble the external table structures!)
- Samuel to perform a survey next week - cable suspension and removal likely 2nd or 3rd week or March
- VIC this friday for IT
- removal of ISCOOL cables and insulators below RILIS on Thursday (Lukas, Alex)
- Integration
- Visit with Vincent and Didier this afternoon to review the HRS door debaucle
- SCE investigating placement of shielding (earthquake safe) above the SSP areas
- Some on-site checks to confirm new platform design fits with current model
- IRP Design Study in preparation
- CV
- Some works under the bunker starting today but still waiting on a quotation from contractor for the main works to be coordinated and date finalised
- Safety / coordination
- John Etheridge to confirm EROS involvement
- Lead
- some more bricks (unpainted) discovered behind the laser table towards GPS separator (likely blocking radiation from vacuum exhaust pipes)
- TBC if radioactive - need to transfer to pallet as requested by RP
- Olivier Prouteau recommendations:
- PPE required: Tyvek, mask, gloves
- Box required to transfer into for removal
- He will take a sample of the area to ensure no Pb dust contamination
- Could we consider a worksite map with coloured zones and dates posted at entrances?
- Planning: We will start weekly briefing meeting from next week for micro planning of activities -> invite will follow

Machne related activities in the experimental hall 10mSpeakers: Erwin Siesling (CERN), Simon Mataguez (CERN)
EPC platform:
- The old power supplies have been removed and are ready for shipping out of the SAS (if not done already). Old blue racks are empty
- Cable trays have been installed - next phase is rack installation and cabling (Rustan Calming EN/EL WSS)
- Rack arrival foreseen end of last week is late - today? (Tueaday 17-02)
- The power cable/tube for the neon lights under the (new) platform need rerouting - ticket opened
- Installation planning follows EDMS 2575720 (ISOLDE-REX Consolidation Phase 1 schedule): https://edms.cern.ch/ui/file/2575720/1.10/2575720-V1.10_ISOLDE-REX_Cons-Ph1_Installation-Schedule_01-01-2026-11-05-2026.png
Reminder: - Vacuum interlock ready by end of March.
- Tests and commissioning scheduled from April to June.(false) Fire alarms:
- An IS37 is in place during working ours for the EPC platform works. However the dust someties gets intio the sniffer system and as soon as the system is enabled again (IS37 disabled at 19h) the detectors set of (dust accumulated in/around the sniffer tubes gets sucked in). Unfortunate situation. Fire brigade is aware. It seems better now that the cutting, etc. work has finsihed. Firedetector specialist has been involved.HRS (GPS) field measurement:
- The HRS Teslameters box and GPS NMR box will be removed in the frame of the RILIS refurbishment - planned for Thursday-morning (David Giloteaux).
- M. Buzio would like to install the HRS field measurement small rack asap. Access to the HRS Sep zone required. The bracket/support is ready and can be fixed to the hall (O. Fjeld). To be planned.
- M. Buzio would like to carry out HRS magnet powering tests. This is not compatible with the forseen change of the power supplies and refurbishment of the 197 convertors and power room. Not possible before 2027?
LS3 Beam Instrumentation Improvements – HIE-ISOLDE
Two preparation meetings held on 3 February (https://indico.cern.ch/event/1621985/) and 16 February (https://indico.cern.ch/event/1647990/)
1. Technical Scope (Wish List)
-
Calibration of 13 DBs.
-
Installation of 3 new slit systems.
-
Reordering of actuators (requires 2 additional actuators – technically feasible).
-
If Faraday cup connectors are modified/fixed, access to the fume hood in Building 179 will be required.
2. Workspace & Planning
-
A clearly delimited working area in the ISOLDE hall is required for approximately 6 months.
-
Includes a dedicated workbench.
-
Effective hands-on work estimated at ~2 months.
-
Technical Coordination to allocate time slot and define workspace.
Low Energy Lines Layout Update – ISOLDE Experimental Hall
Approval of the new layout (EDMS 2404472) mainly due to PUMA installation (ECR 3391077).
Agreed Changes (for the CCDB and EPC database. As per ECR.):-
YRC4 → YRL4
-
YRC7 → YRL7
-
Creation of new beam line: YRC8 (requested to layout database manager)
-
YRC6.BDB.1600 (DB4) → YRC8.BDB.0100
-
YRC6__VVS3 → YRC8__VVS1
YHRS.ZQP.0300 becomes YHRS.ZQS.0300 as requested by Sebastian… layout and EAM must be updated

Lifting inspection and tests:
- Overhead crane PR214 foreseen today (10-12h). WISARD, HT room and GPS separator area Wedn/ThursdModification power outlets:
- Almost finished. HRS and GPS sperator areas to be done. Visit with RP and technician (Jean-Francois Rostant EN/EL) done. Modification forseen for next week.
- in the HRS and GPS separator zones there are VSC control boxes connected to the power outlets in question. Verified with VSC: No impact if stopped (FE TP ventilators - which are not runnig anyway). There are aso the beamgate switches connected to these outlets - no impact if stopped.Ventilation:
- Ventilation in the hall will be cut for 1 week (until Mon 23 Feb) for modification on the controller cards. No impact on the hall co-activities (M. Averna, J. Vollaire, C. Mutin (SY-EPC), et all.)Planning:
- H. Heylen, C. Porzio and E. Siesling have started putting in place an overall planning covering the various projects and activities in the hall. - 14:55 → 15:00
