Description
In the context of a growing interest in quantum observables at collider experiments, this study presents the first experimental measurement of the polarization of W bosons in the Higgs boson decay. The Higgs boson, being a scalar particle, provides a unique opportunity, since its decay kinematic structure can be described by a small set of free parameters that are experimentally accessible at the LHC.
Angular correlations among the final-state particles are exploited to perform a precise test of the Standard Model description of the Higgs decay to W bosons. First, the double polarization fraction was measured empirically, including possible CP-violating amplitudes. Subsequently, the free parameters of the spin density matrix are extracted from data. Finally, the measured observables of the WW quantum system are interpreted in the context of quantum entanglement and CGLMP violations.
