Description

This event is part of a series dedicated to the Ritmo con Señas (Rhythm with Signs).

This method was developed in Buenos Aires by Argentine musician and composer Santiago Vazquez as a way to organize collective musical improvisation through a shared vocabulary of gestures. It draws inspiration from traditional percussion music and makes it possible for people from different backgrounds—even those with little or no musical experience—to play improvised music together.

A conductor uses hand and body signs to give real-time suggestions to the musicians, facilitating various aspects of the music.

So, be prepared to keep it simple but groovy, to listen as much as possible, and to share music with people of completely different skill levels and experiences.

Notes

  • This session is open to anyone, but is recommended that you have attended a previous Rhythm with Signs session or are familiar with the method already to make the most of it.
  • If you are not familiar with the method and you are interested in an introductory session you may contact claudio.cipriani@cern.ch for more information.
  • This won't be an open jam, we will play improvised music and jam a bit but focusing on the study of the method.
  • Some percussion instruments will be available, but feel free to bring your own instrument (both percussion and melodic instruments are welcome), keeping in mind that not everything can be easily amplified and that this session will focus on percussions.
  • Depending on the backgrounds and interests of the participants, the session may be split into different sessions, or topical sessions may be organized (please feel free to ask about specific topics)
  • Please unsubscribe if you won't be able to come.
  • Something to drink / eat is always welcome :)
