Brainstorming for needs on FLUKA studies

  • New thresholds for IR3 off-momentum losses. Deployment in 2026 (500kW @ 450GeV and 100kW @ 6800GeV).
    • 2026: Finalise the analysis of the Fluka Simulations of the MD data (450GeV case) with the accurate estimation of the power deposited on the Q6.
    • LS3: Main limitation of 100 kW at top energy comes from the thermo-mechanical simulations of the TCLAs. Review them.
    • Q6 quench level calculation was done in the past by Luca Bottura/Arjan Verweij need to find who could follow up this.
  • 2026-LS3: Power loss on Q6 for other scenarios, i.e. pressure test on the middle of IR3 at top energy.
  • IR1/IR5 HL-LHC: triplet quench levels and D1 (now superconducting).
    • Steady-state quench level from Ezio Todesco assumed 13 mW/cm3 for HL-LHC triplet - need assessment for D1
    • Fast losses quench level - needs assessment
    • 2026-LS3: contact Magnets + MPE to see who can provide this input.
  • 2026: Review of Magnet list on CRITICAL families (contact Sandrine Le Naour / Arjan Verweij).
  • 2026 (next week) : Results on TCLD studies.
  • Tbc: Energy deposition for the TCTs for protons.
    • Scraping directly
    • Halo from IR7 (two cases evaluated: halo from Sixtract, halo from gaussian distribution)
