Summary of Salient points
- The recording of the meeting is available here.
- The edited version of the report is on the agenda page here. We agreed to allow one week from the day of this meeting for the authors to check their chapters for errors that may have been introduced during editing. This also gives time for editors that may want to do final checks.
- It was reported that the usage of country name (official name versus short version) is inconsistent in the report; the long version may also not be good for the flow of the narrative. We agreed to seek input from UNESCO to adopt a consistent approach across all chapters.
- Dedication in the memory of Deepak Kar.
- We agreed to move it from the first page of the report to the HEP chapter where Deepak's contribution was most impactful.
- We agreed to add another statement on the page with the author list. An example, supported by many people, could be this: "We gratefully acknowledge the late Prof. Deepak Kar for his valuable contributions to this work."
- The usage of AI in drafting the report
- Texts generated by AI should be checked by the authors for accuracy and supported with references.
- Considering the amount of efforts in preparing this report over the years, quick usage of AI is generally disfavored.
- The chapter of "Energy" has made use of AI-generated texts. The authors are not responding to editors' comments to improve the texts. Without inputs from the authors, we discussed the option of removing this chapter from the report. We agreed to allow one week from the date of the meeting for everyone to read the Energy chapter and inform the STC of their recommendation. The preference is for the authors to address the editors' comments so that the chapter stays in the report.
- Implementation: We run out of time to discuss this. It is postponed to the next meeting on May 6.
