The HIE–ISOLDE facility has established a broad programme of nuclear structure and reaction studies with radioactive ion beams, particularly through the Miniball, ISS, and SEC collaborations. Despite these achievements, several physics questions remain challenging due to limitations in sensitivity and selectivity, especially for low-intensity beams and weak reaction channels.

The ISLS (ISOLDE Superconducting Linear Spectrometer) is a by-product of the ISOLDE Superconducting Recoil Separator (ISRS) project. It integrates MAGDEM (MAGnet DEMonstrator), the fundamental building block of the ISRS particle storage ring.

Radiative neutron capture (n,γ) reactions govern the nucleosynthesis of heavy elements in stars through the slow (s-), intermediate (i-), and rapid (r-) neutron capture processes. Despite more than 70 years of experimental effort, direct (n,γ) cross-section measurements have been performed on only ~350 stable nuclei and merely 17 radioactive isotopes.
