Title: Improving Beam Delivery at OFFLINE2: Implementing TRIUMF’s Hybrid Automated Tuning Approach
      Speaker: Omar Hassan (TRIUMF, CA)
Abstract: Implementing automated tuning techniques is a priority at TRIUMF, driven by a hybrid approach that utilizes the predictive digital twin, Model Coupled Accelerator Tuning (MCAT), alongside Bayesian Optimization for Ion Steering (BOIS). While MCAT computes transport and accelerated beam tunes, BOIS treats beam orbit correction as a black-box optimization problem, maximizing measured current. Combining these offers an efficient, physics-grounded tuning process. In a recent collaborative effort, this framework was applied to the OFFLINE2 facility. Successfully deploying the digital twin required addressing two distinct challenges. First, several discrepancies in the facility's baseline model were corrected to maximize the model's physical accuracy. This included correcting the quadrupole effective lengths while also ensuring fringe field effects were implemented. Second, phase-space tomography was performed to accurately determine the initial beam conditions. This presentation details the specific optimization strategies and tuning objectives executed at OFFLINE2 using TRIUMF's hybrid approach.
